Toy lecture

Haarlem, today. Toy leg with well defined calf muscles found on the beach.

The gastrocnemius and soleus muscles -- the calf muscles -- unite into one band of tissue, which becomes the Achilles tendon at the low end of the calf. It is a fibrous tissue that connects the calf muscles to the heel bone.

During walking, running and jumping the calf muscle pulls the heel up to allow forward movement.

Like a magician, a runner needs to add new tricks and tools to his training. Or it'll gets boring. They serve as the floating devices for the foundation (breathing) of training. New elements injuce the activity with variation. Keeping it alive and floating and happy and healthy...

Parkour in the mist

The symmetrical garden of the Assumburg Castle in Heemskerk. Training can be characterised by its symmetrical composition. To 'go the distance', say 10 K, requires to get back the same distance. This is where the benefit of training lies. Especially in the winter. You can't just stop. You will freeze. You have to keep moving to return. This is how endurance is built. There is no quitting option.
